TDBA open badminton tournament concludes

DIMAPUR — The Tseminyu District Badminton Association (TDBA) held its annual Tseminyu District Open Badminton Tournament 2024 on July 12 and the 13th.

Altogether, 67 players participated in the two-day event which included Under-15 (sub-juniors), Under-19 (juniors), Open (men’s and women’s) and Veteran’s (40+) categories, the association stated in an update.

Superintendent of Police, Tseminyu, Talisunep Imchen and BDO of Tseminyu block, Jenny Kath were the special guest and guest of honour for the opening and closing programmes, respectively.

Both the guests motivated the players to imbibe discipline in their everyday lives and also maintained that badminton is a sport that can mould characters.

The tournament was a follow-up of the 10-day summer coaching camp, which was held from July 1 to the 11th, wherein 28 players registered. The camp was mentored by Bentilo Kath, coach (TDBA).

Results of the two-day tournament

1. Sub-Juniors (Under-15)

Boys’ singles: Winner – Soruno Tep; runner-up -Richard Wanth

Boys’ doubles: Winners – Soruno Tep and Hisolo Tep; runners-up – Richard Wanth and Gwazenlo Tsela

Girls’ Singles: Winner – Haine Apon; runner-up – Noghiya Kath

2. Juniors (Under-19)

Boys’ singles: Winner – Aboi; runner-up – Nyenlo Kent

Boys, doubles: Winners – Nyenlo Kent and Moamaren Pongen; runners-up – Hiti Wanth and Edwin Tsela

3. Open

Men’s singles: Winner – Bentilo Kath, runner-up – Joyson Kesen

Men’s doubles: Winners – Motilo Thono and Joyson Kesen; runners-up – Sonyelo Khing and Agwalo Tep

Women’s singles: Winner – Kenyuchilo Thong; runner-up – Sherhunle Magh

Women’s doubles: Winners – Kenyuchilo Thong and Sherhunle Magh; runners-up – Nikali Thyug and Keningunuo Kath

4. Veteran’s (40+)

Winners – Solo Lorin and Shahilo Tep; runnesr-up – Sonyelo Khing and John Kent
