Teachers trained in Montessori and language proficiency
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has partnered with the Nagaland Institute of Language Studies and Research (NILSR) to equip schools with Montessori and language proficiency programmes.
In connection with this, a four-day intensive training session was held at the NBCC campus in Kohima to equip schools affiliated with NBCC. According to a press release, teachers were taught Montessori teaching methodologies and the importance of creating a prepared environment for children.
They were trained by Theyievino Whiso, academic director and training lead of NILSR, on how to implement non-textbook-based lesson plans and use Montessori materials.
The trainees, guided by NILSR students on the ‘ABCs of structured literacy’, learned to use phonics in teaching English sounds. They also studied articulatory phonetics to understand the sounds of English and how to use the international phonetic alphabet for transcribing English words.
The training concluded with the trainees committing to participate in continuous professional development over the coming months.
It was mentioned that this programme aims to keep them informed about new developments in Montessori education, educational research, and best practices, enabling them to continually improve their teaching skills and stay up-to-date with the latest educational methodologies.
