Tenyimi Union Nagaland urges Nagas to unite for common goal

KOHIMA — The Tenyimi Union Nagaland (TUN) has appealed to all Naga national workers and Naga civil society leaders to abide by the true Christian principle of forgive and forget, if there is any human errors and differences that might have occurred in the past; come together and move forward to achieve the desired goal of honourable and acceptable Naga solution.

This was one of the resolutions adopted by the TUN at its first foundation day, hosted by Kohima Village Council (KVC) at Kohima Village VDB Hall Ziekiezou, Kohima, on Saturday.

While expressing concern over the plight of people in eastern districts, in terms of development and living conditions, the union appealed to the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) ‘not to dislodge the hard-earned unification of Nagas and declaration of Nagaland from excluded Area (Free Nagas) by our pioneers in the year 1955’.

It also extended support to the resolution adopted in Nagaland Legislative Assembly in March this year, to reconsider the decision to fence the India-Myanmar border, which if implemented, ‘will divide Naga brothers and sisters in the region and adversely affect their free movement for their daily economic activities as well as social life obligations’.

On election to the municipal and town councils, the TUN, through a resolution, requested the authority to conduct the polls in a free and fair manner. It also urged the electorate to exercise their franchise consciously and elect the right candidate to represent their respective wards.

It went on to oppose the proposed palm oil cultivation along the border areas of Nagaland, saying that it will destroy all virgin forest and strip-off the future economy.

Meanwhile, the TUN thanked the KVC for hosting the event, and the Chakhesang Baptist Church Council for hosting the 1st Tenyimi Christian Leaders Meet at Pfutsero in March this year. It also appealed to all Tenyimi religious leaders, political leaders and officers to maintain and uphold the Tenyimi good inherent traditional values of equitable justice and humble themselves in their respective field of works and activities.

Through a resolution, the TUN also felicitated the newly elected Lok Sabha MP, S. Supongmeren Jamir and wished him for his future endeavours.
