Thanamir Village Students’ Union starts indefinite agitation
DIMAPUR — The Thanamir Village Students’ Union (TVSU) has announced an indefinite agitation beginning February 2 in compliance with the directives from the office of Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA).
In a press note, the TVSU maintained that the agitation is in response to the failure of the Directorate of School Education to meet YAA’s demands within a 14-day ultimatum.
As part of the protest, the union stated that until further notice comes from the office of TVSU or YAA, no tourists or trekkers would be allowed to visit Mount Saramati or any other tourist hotspots within Thanamir.
Furthermore, research groups stationed in Thanamir, such as the Nature Conservation Foundation (NCF) or any other research group or individual, have been directed to cease all research activities.
It may be mentioned that the YAA had issued an ultimatum to the Directorate of School Education to address the shortage of teachers across Yimkhiung jurisdiction within 14 days.
The ultimatum was submitted to the principal director of School Education on Jan. 18, following the failure of the department to address the teacher shortage issue.
