TikTok introduces new feature called ‘Text Posts’

Just hours after Elon Musk’s Twitter announced its rebranding, the popular short-video platform, TikTok, revealed its latest feature: text posts.

“At TikTok, we’re always looking to empower our creators and community with innovative tools that inspire self-expression,” TikTok shared on its website. “Today, we’re thrilled to announce the expansion of text posts on TikTok, a new format for creating text-based content that broadens options for creators to share their ideas and express their creativity.”

The company said the new feature enables creators to share stories, poems, and written content, providing a new way for self-expression and easier content creation.

The process of creating a text post on TikTok is straightforward and user-friendly. When accessing the camera page, users will be presented with three options: photo, video, and text. By selecting the “text” option, they will be directed to the text creation page, where they can craft and type out the content of their post.

Moreover, once the text post is complete and ready to be shared with the world, users will find familiar options to customise their content on the Post page. These customisation features include adding sound, tagging a location, enabling comments, allowing Duets, and more. This ensures that text posts are just as dynamic and interactive as any video or photo post on the platform.

To enhance the visual appeal of text posts, TikTok offers a range of features for creators to experiment with. Some highlights include the ability to add stickers that complement the content and add a touch of flair to the post. Users can also tag other accounts and incorporate relevant hashtags, similar to video or photo posts, to increase discoverability and engagement.

Background colours provide another creative dimension, allowing creators to choose from a variety of options to make their text pop and stand out to the audience. And because sounds play a crucial role in the TikTok experience, they have been integrated into text posts as well. Creators can add tunes that readers can groove to as they peruse the text post, adding an extra layer of engagement.

“Just like video or photo posts, you can save your drafts and store them with other unpublished posts for later editing or discard them entirely,” the company said, emphasising the user-friendly nature of the text post feature.

“We’re excited to see what our community will create with text posts, a new way to express and share your creativity on TikTok,” the company wrote.
