DIMAPUR — The Tenyimi Union Dimapur (TUD) and Eastern Naga Union Dimapur (ENUD) have jointly decided to oppose any attempt to abrogate the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and border fencing on its ancestral homeland tooth and nail, while it also appealed to the legislators to stand firm and speak in one accord in this regard.
While alarmed by the nefarious policy of creating another division among the kith and kin by doing away with the FMR and the proposed border fencing, the two organisations implored upon the world largest democracy to be sensitive towards the emotions of the Naga people. It affirmed that any attempt to abrogate the FMR and build fences on their ancestral homeland would be opposed tooth and nail.
“Since time immemorial Nagas has been living in our ancestral lands, which has been arbitrarily divided amongst the two countries (Myanmar and India) in 1953. Nagas have borne the brunt of various violations of human rights perpetrated by both the Myanmar Government and the Indian Union, yet we are still resilient and hopeful that both the countries will respect our rights and wishes to remain together,” the statement read.
The two organisations maintained that it was incomprehensible to carry passports/ visas to toil own fields beyond the border or to visit their kith and kin.
In this regard, TUD and ENPUD implored upon the world largest democracy to be sensitive towards the emotions of the Naga people adding that any attempt to abrogate the FMR and build fences on their ancestral homeland would be opposed tooth and nail. It further called upon the legislators to stand firm and speak in one accord in this regard.
