Tuensang, Kiphire Police arrest 4 under NLTP Act

DIMAPUR — In a series of raids, Tuensang Police and Kiphire Police apprehended four people for illicit liquor possession, seized the items, and filed cases under the NLTP Act.

Tuensang Police arrests three

According to a press release from Tuensang police, a suo-moto FIR was received from UBI Chubaonen, OC Tuensang PS, on September 16, stating that during a raid at Officers Colony in Tuensang town that day, illicit liquor was seized.

In this regard, one Sanjeev Kumar Thakur from Bardepur, Bihar, who is currently residing at Officers Colony, was arrested and produced at Tuensang PS. Liquors of various brands were recovered from his possessions, including beer (44 cans), rum (24 bottles), whisky (5 bottles), and vodka (2 bottles).

In this connection, a regular criminal case has been registered under the NLTP Act for further investigation.

On September 13, a suo-moto FIR was received from ASI Chilliam, who stated that on September 12, at around 3:30 pm, Tuensang PS personnel, QRT party, and she went to the 3rd NAP ward in Tuensang to check for illicit liquor.

The party searched a suspected house belonging to one Achemla, from Old Mangakhi, currently residing at the 3rd NAP ward Saksi, and seized 19 bottles of IMFL rum, among other items.

Accordingly, she was arrested and produced at Tuensang PS, and under the NLTP Act, a regular criminal case was registered.

Another written suo-moto FIR was received from UBI Chuba Onen, OC Tuensang PS, on August 31, stating that, at around 5 pm, on a tip-off, a house search was conducted at Bazaar ‘B’ NST road, Tuensang town, led by one NGO and QRT party.

During the search, 240 bottles of rum were seized from the possession of one Alu (34) from Yimpang village, presently residing at Bazaar ‘B’ sector. In this connection, a regular criminal case has been registered under the NLTP Act for further investigation.

Capacity building and seminar

In an effort to create awareness among the police personnel of DEF Tuensang regarding cybercrime, a capacity building on cybercrime was conducted on September 15 and 16 at the SP office conference hall.

During the programme, ASI Putiyanger, I/C cyber cell, Tuensang deliberated on various topics such as online threats, investigation procedures for cybercrime, CDR analysis, and other dangers lurking in cyberspace, while Addl. SP encouraged the attendees to empower themselves with knowledge about cybercrime to avoid falling into the traps of cybercriminals.

Altogether, 100 personnel participated in the programme

On September 9, a one-day seminar was held at the conference hall of Sangtam Baptist Lithro in Tuensang town by the opioid substitution therapy (OST) centre, District Hospital Tuensang.

UBSI I Yongkongtoshi of DEF Tuensang spoke during the technical session on the NDPS Act and highlighted the different sections under the act. He also spoke on the importance of awareness to control and curb drug use in society.

Kiphire Police arrests one

Based on input from sources, personnel of DEF Kiphire intercepted one truck bearing registration number AS01KC 0608 on September 20 at High School Area, Kiphire.

According to a press release from Kiphire Police, during frisking and checking of the vehicle, the team recovered IMFL comprising rum (15 cases), beer (100 cases), and whisky (15 cases).

Consequently, the truck’s driver, Ajibar Rahman from Barbhitha Chhaygaon, Assam, was arrested, and the IMFL and truck were seized.

In this regard, a criminal case has been registered at Kiphire PS under the NLTP Act.
