Two cattle thieves apprehended in Mokokchung, three at large
MOKOKCHUNG — Mokokchung Police apprehended two cattle thieves at the Tsutapela Check Gate on July 29, and three other members of the gang are still at large.
According to a statement issued by the Mokokchung Police, a complaint was received from a resident of Longtho reporting that his four cows, which were kept near his residence, were stolen in the early hours of July 27. Subsequently, a case was registered at the Longtho Police Station.
The investigation uncovered that the gang had stolen cattle from Longtho as well as Moayimti. The stolen cattle were then transported to Assam in a pick-up truck.
The police further stated that, based on the vehicle descriptions provided by witnesses and the traces left at the crime scene, they identified and subsequently seized the vehicle used in the crime.
The vehicle was a white Bolero pickup with registration number AS03C 5507.
The arrested individuals were identified as Hasim Ali, son of Kachim Ali, from Balijan Natun Mati, Mariani, Assam, and Zakir Ali, son of Samsul Hussain, also from Balijan Natun Mati, Mariani, Assam.
During further investigation, the duo revealed that five of them, namely Alfred and Rinku (owner of the vehicle), both residents of Balijan Nutan Mati, Mariani Assam, along with an unknown person, had stolen the cattle and disposed of them at Amguri Chariali, Assam.
A team led by the officer in charge of Longtho PS went to Mariani and raided the homes of the other co-accused, but they were found to be absconding and evading arrest.
Additional SP Mokokchung stated that the police are making efforts to arrest the absconders involved in the crime.
Police stations have been instructed to remain vigilant to prevent such crimes and address criminals according to the law. The SP also lauded OC Longtho PS and his team for their timely arrest of the cattle thieves causing disruption in the border areas.
