DIMAPUR — A fire destroyed two thatched houses at Kania Tokbi village in the neighbouring Karbi Anglong district of Assam on Monday, leaving six families homeless.

An official from the West Fire Station in Dimapur informed that a distress call was received at 12:26 pm on Monday and the fire was doused by 1:18 pm.

The official informed that two fire tenders from the West Fire Station and one from the Central Fire Station were dispatched, but only a smaller fire tender from the West Fire Station was able to navigate the narrow road to the fire incident site.

The fire left six families homeless, with no belongings salvaged from the destroyed houses, he said, adding that the inferno was likely to start while drying meat.

The fire was estimated to have caused loss of property worth INR 5 lakh but no casualties were reported.
