Dimapur, Aug. 11 (EMN): A pair of rhesus macaques owned as pets by Kevochusa Hoshi family and Luchizo Yitsithu family of Phek town was donated to the Nagaland Zoological Park (NZP).
Upon receiving information via social media about a pair of primates being held captive and bred under pitiable conditions by some individuals of Phek town, a team of personnel from Kiphire wildlife division led by its warden M Limaba rushed to the district headquarters on August 8 and located the primates and its owners, stated an update from the wildlife division.
However,much to their surprise, the team realised that the condition of the enclosure where the animals were kept and the diet being provided were not as bad as initially portrayed on social media platforms.
It was after much persuasion and assurance from the team that their pets would now be looked after by professionals in a better environment and with promise to let the families visit their pets as and when they come to Dimapur, said the update. the team handed over the primates to the park authorities.
Meanwhile, the wildlife division, Kiphire, thanked the director and staff of Nagaland Zoological Park for agreeing to take the pair. It also thanked the DFO Phek and his staff for logistical support.
