Unpaid for 5 months, Dimapur Municipal Council employees urge government to resolve salary crisis
DIMAPUR — The Dimapur DMC Employees Welfare Union has appealed to the government for a resolution to the ongoing salary crisis affecting Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) employees.
For the past five months, employees have been without their salaries, causing immense hardships, it said in a press release on Wednesday.
The union recalled that on March 7, it served an ultimatum to the competent authority demanding the release of salaries within 15 days, threatening a ‘No Pay No Work’ agitation. However, after receiving assurances from the advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs to address the issue, the union called off the planned strike in a meeting on March 21, agreeing to cooperate with the government until May 15.
Taking into account the ongoing Parliament electioneering model code of conduct (MCC), the union urged the government to expedite a solution by providing additional funds and granting permission for the DMC to collect urban utility fee/entry fee from commercial vehicles entering its jurisdiction.
Further, it requested all DMC employees to continue cooperating with the union in this matter and appealed to the competent authority to take immediate action to resolve the issue as soon as the MCC is lifted.
