‘Want to remove MLA recommendation in govt. system’—INC candidate Kath
The Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Meshenlo Kath of 9th Kohima Town Assembly Constituency (AC) on Tuesday said that he wanted to do away with MLA ‘recommendations’ in government jobs or schemes applications and give chance to deserving candidates if voted to power.
He made this remark during the common platform programme for Kohima Town AC candidates organised by Concerned Kohima Youth at the Heritage Complex, Kohima, on Tuesday.
“Everyone will not get a chance to become a politician or officer. Whatever they are doing should be done in a fair manner and give chance to the deserving people irrespective of their background.
“For any interviews and schemes application related to the government without the sitting MLA recommendation, you are not going to get it. But, I want to remove this system and give it to deserving applicants,” he said and added that he is doing that for the youth and for the next generation to come.
He also lamented that there is no leadership in most Naga MLAs and expressed desire to be one instead of being a politician.
“Most of the present MLAs will give the public fish (money) but they don’t teach how to catch fish. The people are ruled by unqualified leaders because educated youth do not voice out,” he said.
While saying that it is time to give leadership a chance to the youngsters, he said, “If a person ruled for a long time, we will become like China. There should be a change in the leadership.”
NPP candidate Dr. Tsielhoutuo Rhutso while maintaining that educated unemployed is his key focus told the youth to come out of their comfort zone if they are determined to become someone someday.
Employability is more important than a degree, he said and told them to equip themselves with skills and wait for the opportunity. He further told them to become job providers and not job seekers.
While pointing out the water crisis faced by the citizens of Kohima, he has assured to look into water management projects if voted to power. Terming 9 Kohima Town AC as a Mini-Nagaland, which is open to all tribes, he encouraged other tribes to contest in the upcoming elections.
