West Bengal foundation day celebrated at Raj Bhavan
DIMAPUR — The foundation day of West Bengal was celebrated at Dr. Imkongliba Ao Hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima, on Thursday.
Speaking at the occasion, Nagaland Governor La. Ganesan extended Statehood Day greetings to the residents of West Bengal who have made Nagaland their home. He noted that through songs, dances, and colourful expressions of Bengali culture, they have brought to the state the essence of their homeland, weaving a thread of unity and brotherhood.
“The celebration is a testament to the spirit of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat, an initiative by the Government of India that aims to strengthen bonds and enrich the cultural fabric of our nation by promoting understanding and respect for the diverse traditions that make up our country,” he said, according to a press statement from Raj Bhavan.
Ganesan described West Bengal as a land renowned for its rich literary heritage, art, music, and cinema, noting its immense contributions to the cultural and intellectual vibrancy of the nation. He mentioned that figures such as Rabindranath Tagore, Amartya Sen, Satyajit Ray, and Swami Vivekananda have left indelible marks on the world stage, and their legacy continues to inspire countless individuals.
Many eminent persons have particularly made immense contributions during the freedom struggle of the country, the governor said.
The governor also welcomed students and faculty from Don Bosco College, Kohima, emphasising that their presence symbolises the bridging of cultures and the spirit of mutual learning.
The celebration featured various cultural presentations by the Bengali community of Nagaland, as well as a video presentation of the goodwill message from Governor of West Bengal, Dr. C V Ananda Bose.
