DIMAPUR — The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Wangkhao Government College (WGC), Mon, represented Nagaland NSS Cell during the North East NSS festival, organised by Sikkim state NSS Cell in collaboration with Ministry of Youth and Sports, Government of India.

Thirty-two NSS volunteers and two programme officers, namely Manwang Konyak and Manyei Kuhmeishu N from Nagaland, attended the camp held in Gangtok, Sikkim from July 15 to the 19th, an update stated.

A total of 300 NSS volunteers from the North Eastern states attended the camp which was declared open by Sikkim Minister for Education, Sports and Youth Affairs, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department, Raju Basnett.

The inaugural session was followed by a brief report of NSS by SNO. Regional Director of North East, Jangjilong addressed the gathering and encouraged the volunteers to be equipped with skills which will assist them in acquiring jobs.

The five-day camp encompassed training the volunteers in different areas of life skills by Anjan Chaudhury, faculty development trainer and founder of Skillfinity.

Career counselling, skills for problem solving, awareness of oneself, skills for preparing curriculum vitae and facing interviews, developing sense of social and civic responsibility, were some of the focusses of  life skill sessions.

Zumba sessions were the highlights of the morning activity. The evening sessions were arrayed with cultural items from each North Eastern state.

The camp also coached the volunteers to become responsible individuals through understanding themselves in relation to their community. They were trained in problem solving skills to further their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.

The chief essence of the camp was the cultural awareness developed by the volunteers through cultural sessions and exchange programme, the update stated.
