Women vendors urge Manipur Governor to restore peace and tranquility
IMPHAL — Representatives of Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Co-ordinating Committee (KIKJCC) called on Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Tuesday and apprized the prevailing situation in the aftermath of the ethnic tension between the two communities that broke out on May 3.
KIKJCC is a committee of women vendors of iconic Nupi Keithel- Asia’s largest all women run markets in Imphal.
The committee made a sincere request to the Governor to restore peace and tranquility in the state and to make arrangements to return the displaced people who have been taking shelter in different relief camps of both Valley and Hills Districts to their respective places.
Reiterating that the state has been experiencing untold miseries for the last two months affecting in all spheres, the Governor advised them to extend their fullest cooperation to the Security Forces who are discharging their responsibilities to contain the situation and restore normalcy in the state.
The Governor also reiterated that she has already informed the Prime Minister about the fateful incident and requested to extend all possible help to restore peace and normalcy in the state.

Commander (25 BRTF) Colonel Atul Kumar also called on Governor at Raj Bhavan and apprized the Governor on the progress of work on fencing of Indo-Myanmar Border.
Governor also discussed the prevailing situation with Ex-MP (Lok Sabha) Dr. Th Meinya Singh and informed latter the common programme of actions already taken up/propose to be taken up by the Central and state government in bringing peace and tranquility in the state at the earliest.
Ministerial team visits:
A team of state legislatures led by Information and Public Relations and Health Minister Dr. S Ranjan Singh on Tuesday inspected the construction site of the temporary housing complex being set up nearby Sajiwa Jail in Manipur at Imphal East district for displaced families affected by the on-going crisis.
The state legislatures who took part in the day’s inspection visit included RK Imo (Sagolband), K Robindro (Mayang Imphal), Kh Loken Singh (Wangoi) and S Kunjakeswor (Keba) Singh (Patsoi).
Speaking to the media, Dr. Ranjan Singh maintained that the construction will be ready within a month and that the same is being constructed in Thoubal and Bishnupur districts also.
He added that construction for Imphal West district will also be started soon where a total of 200 displaced families can be accommodated.
