Workshop on NIPUN FLN held in Karbi Anglong

Workshop on NIPUN Bharat FLN
Organisers and guests at the one-day workshop held on NIPUN Axom Foundational Literacy Numeracy held at the auditorium of new KAAC secretariat building in Diphu on Monday.

DIPHU —  A one-day district-level workshop on National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN) Axom (Foundational Literacy Numeracy – FLN) was held to showcase the innovation and best practices under the backdrop of G20 at the auditorium of new Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) secretariat building in Diphu on Monday.

The workshop was organised by Sarbha Siksha Abhijan (SSA), Karbi Anglong.

District Mission Coordinator (DMC), SSA, Nirupuma Timungpi explained about the implementation of FLN in Karbi Anglong under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the need for support from all stakeholders.

Attending as the chief guest the Executive Member (EM), KAAC, Education, Richard Tokbi said that the FLN programme is to help children learn through play and develop proficiency in reading and writing at an early stage.

The EM thanked the teachers from block levels who came to demonstrate the Teaching Learning Materials (TMM). He urged all stakeholders to work effortlessly in achieving FLN among all children by 2025.

FLN consultant, Barithe Timung said that FLN will help children read simple sentences with meaning and solve basic maths problems by the end of Class -3.

As per NEP-2020, the government of India launched NIPUN Bharat Mission for FLN to achieve foundational literacy and numeracy among all children by 2025, Timung said.

Timung also said the objective of FLN is to ensure an inclusive classroom environment through play, discovery and activity for children, to enable them to engage in reading and writing with comprehension, to understand the reasoning in domains of numbers and enable them to be independent in problem-solving.

The students covered by NIPUN Bharat (FLN) are from the age group of 3 to 9 years including preschool to class-3 and children in classes 4 and 5, who have not attained the foundational skills.

In Karbi Anglong, NIPUN Bharat FLN covered schools are 1112.

Chairman of, Karbi Language Development Board, Nobin Terang  said that if children are not taught properly at an early stage in school, they will face learning gap at a higher level.
