Dimapur, Jan. 28 (EMN): Indian football legend and Padmashree and Arjuna award recipient, Baichung Bhutia, and the former Indian football captain and coach of East Bengal team, Renedy Singh, have agreed to be advisors of Western Sumi Sports Association (WSSA).
An update from WSSA informed that Baichung Bhutia and Renedy Singh have committed to develop sports at the grassroots especially football in Western Sumi areas and Nagaland in general.
While advising the WSSA officials to focus on Under-14 category team in order to move up the ladder and reach the national and international levels, the duo assured to support in identifying talents for trials in Indian football clubs.
Baichung further agreed to conduct basic short coaching programmes to guide players in cluster targeted villages, preferably players under WSSA with some past experiences.
He further encouraged WSSA officials that his club Sikkim United, would play with WSSA 11 football team very soon to encourage and motivate the grassroots Naga players under Niuland, Dimapur and Chümoukedima districts.
