ZTC Councillor Vikheshe seeks state’s intervention following landslide
DIMAPUR — Vikheshe Aye, Zunheboto Town Council (ZTC) Councillor for Ward 5 (Alahuto), stated that the recent landslide in Alahuto Ward was the most devastating in the ward’s history and called for urgent action from the state government for preventive measures and to compensate for the damage to public property.
Speaking during a thanksgiving programme held on July 23 at his private residence in Alahuto, he highlighted that the approach roads had been affected. He stressed the need for immediate construction of road maintenance and protective walls to ensure safety for residents of Alahuto and surrounding villages.
Furthermore, Aye warned that if the landslide persists, over 50 households may be affected during the monsoon season. He emphasised the urgent need for remedial measures to ensure the safety and security of the people, according to a press release.
He appealed to the state government to promptly intervene and provide all possible assistance, citing the extreme severity of the situation and the urgent need for support to mitigate the devastating impact of the landslide on the affected communities.
He added that more than 17 households have been evacuated, and the demolition of public property, along with a survey by the Department of Geology and Mining, is still underway in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority.
On his victory in the ZTC election, Aye expressed his gratitude to the people of the ward for electing him. He pledged to work for the welfare of Alahuto ward and Zunheboto town.
He announced that, along with three independent candidates, he has endorsed outside support for the elected chairman of the Zunheboto Town Council to work collectively for the betterment of Zunheboto town under the guidance and support of Tokugha Sukhalu, MLA and Advisor for Food and Civil Supply and Legal Metrology.
The Alahuto Colony Council also had organised a felicitation programme on July 20 for Aye and assured him of their full cooperation and support in his efforts to work towards the welfare and development of the ward.
KMC councillors from Tsütuonuomia Khel felicitated
Meanwhile, the Tsütuonuomia Khel Council, Kohima village, organised a felicitation programme for the elected Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) councillors from Tsütuonuomia on Wednesday at Tsütuo Hall.
According to an update, the programme was chaired by K Neibou Sekhose, chairman of the T Khel Council. Kezhakietuo Belho, associate pastor of Khedi Baptist Church, invoked God’s blessing, and Peter Phewhuo, president of TGOK, gave the welcome address.
Helievi-o Solo, chairman of the Kohima Village Council, speaking on the occasion, congratulated all the elected members and urged them to work towards justice and truth.
He emphasised that the councillors should focus on developing basic necessities for the people, regardless of their party affiliation. He challenged them to check the trade licences of outsiders and take necessary action against illegal trade within the municipal area.
